About Kelsey Violet Murphy

My name is Kelsey and I am a mixed media artist and aspiring art conservator who has a love of 19th century history. I studied both Fine Arts and English at Oregon State University. My work is heavily based off of the Victorian era, and the general macabre. I am fascinated by decay and decomposition. In my artwork, I chose materials such as untreated muslin in order to slowly watch as the paint eats through the material, However, as an aspiring art conservator, I look at how decay impacts a piece over time. I enjoy seeing how decay changes the ways we look at a piece, and how there are many different methods used to slow the inevitable.

In addition to working with traditional mediums, I also work with digital programs, and the realm of animation and conceptual art. Regardless of the medium, I always find inspiration from antique photos, historical fashion, and death itself.
